They are a rare breed of cattle native to North America, originating on the farm of Samuel J. Randall and his son Everett in Sunderland, Vermont. The Randall family farm kept a closed herd in virtual isolation from 1912 up until 1985, unknowingly preserving one of the last American ‘landrace’ breeds. A landrace animal is one that is bred in and adapted to its environment. All the Randall cattle in existence today can be traced back to the Randall family farm. They are a triple purpose breed; dairy, beef, and oxen.
Newhall Farm is committed to helping bring back the breed and by doing that they need a purpose. We practice rotational grazing which provides our cattle with new areas of high-quality pasture every two days while giving our fields long periods of rest and allowing time for regeneration. They are not given added growth hormones, steroids, or unnecessary antibiotics. Our priority at Newhall Farm is to raise our cattle in a humane manner. A well-managed grass-fed, grass-finished system is key to our exceptionally flavorful meat. Each package of Randall beef is linked not only to an individual animal, but to years of genetic history. We sell direct-to-consumer and retail cuts at the farm and at several local markets. We can deliver if the consumer is local. Taste the way beef was meant to taste!
